The first one is the Army CID Badge coin and then the 112th Transportation Coin with a free McCain coin. For a penny you can’t beat something you can turn around and make some nice change off of. If you are a collector or retailer you might want to jump on these.

This 3D Cavalry coin is nothing short of a wonderful coin. The Packhorse wanted something strong yet traditional in their coin and they called upon U.S. Challenge Coins to make them something that fit the bill. This great 1.75” coin is die struck in a brass finish that lends the traditional feel many collector’s love. They avoided the mistake of encasing the coin in epoxy, which would have removed the feel of the coin’s 3D.

The 3D was performing their duties in OIF when they decided to bring in a new coin to award to the soldiers that deserve it. Those soldiers will walk away with a treasure no doubt. This coin is perfect in the sense that it has style of yesteryear with the blend of color that we have come to expect in the 21st century. If you are looking for a coin for your collection from the men and women of the “Regiment of Mounted Riflemen” then check out this coin!

In many cases people collect challenge coins because it reminds them of something they were once part of or something they wished they could have achieved. It’s a special thing that many are starting to open their eyes and see the world around them. I have found it to allow me to touch some of the very best people i have ever met in my life. Challenge coins give you an opportunity to reach across the internet and met someone who once served in the Army before you and talk about the current coins of the day. Of course talking about the current coins of the day does allow you to go above that with war stories or just reminiscing about the past.

Though it’s an Army challenge coin blog it doesn’t mean we can’t talk about collecting outside of our circle with Air Force coins, or any other branch. See it doesn’t matter what kind of collector you are, the hobby is meant to help explore new relationships with other people. This is the bigger aspect of challenge coi collecting and we just want you to think about that versus the next sale or the much more commercialized part of the hobby. So get out there and start looking at Police coins, Air Force coins, or even Fire Fighting Coins.

Recently the Army recruiters have added a new weapon in the arsenal to highlight the entrance into service for those that volunteer for the Army. In Florida the recruiting stations are issuing a new challenge coin to those entering service to signify the commitment they have given in becoming Army Strong!

This challenge coin comes in at 1.5” in size and encases it’s meaning in a brass minting of the Army core values with a silloutte of a soldier appearing on one side. The coin took on sandblasting to give it that rustic look that a soldier is accustomed to. This little coin packs a lot of meaning and is the first coin a recruit will ever hold in his hands. There is no doubt this coin will go Army wide and become a staple in the traditions of the Army in giving their soldiers something to remember.

As a collector this coin is a value because of it’s limited first run and the likelyhood of finding it out in lots when soldiers retire or separate is years down the road. The first mint alone yeilded 50 coins only and is now going into another minimal run of 100 copies. Something that symbolizes the initial steps into service has a great value considering the minimal mint of the initial release.

Often Army challenge coins are not talked about but rather just sold and traded. The fact is the Army is once of the strongest branches of the Armed Forces in the challenge coin niche. They produce some of the best coins available today and I don’t think many collectors know this. One of the most enjoyable things about collecting their coins is the fact that you can get very specific in collecting the branch areas. Some collector’s collect only Cavalry, or Special Ops, or maybe just SM coins. Either way I have found many collectors’ that thrive in collecting on Army coins.

Another great aspect about Army coins is the fact that where once before Air Force coins seem to multiply in display cases, the Army is starting to out gun them in production and awarding the coins. So what does this mean? It’s simple the more the Army continues to mint the wider the collecting ray becomes. This is a prime time to start collecting these coins. We see swings in coins that are hot such as Military Police one day or CID the next.

Our blog will highlight new coins making it to the market for sale or for trade as much as possible. We will also try to provide information about the hobby as often as we can. We know that collector’s are always looking for new information and we intend to provide it.
